Planning hut hikes is often surprisingly difficult. You’re usually dependent on pre-made routes that move strictly from hut to hut, but as soon as you want to plan something yourself, it becomes hard to get a clear overview.
My idea is to show all huts as nodes on a map, with the trails between them as separate connections. A connection is not necessarily a full day stage, but a logical segment between two huts. That way you can visually explore which huts belong together, how long the links are, and how much elevation sits between them. Think of it a bit like a hiking node network for hut hikes.
I’ve now summarized that idea in a first pilot for Schlern-Rosengarten in the Dolomites. The plan is to gradually expand it across the Alps. That’s a lot of work, but also a lot of fun to build, and I’m already finding it useful myself. If you have feedback or ideas, feel free to send me an email.
